- The water must be the same temperature and volume and stirring should be done the same way.
- See how much can be dissolved until just one crystal will not dissolve.
- The solution is now saturated.
- Before, when it could hold more salt or sugar it was unsaturated.
Supersaturated solutions are made with various chemical salts found in a lab.
Perhaps a local science teacher could show you one of these solutions.
It is interesting to watch a supersaturated solution turn back to a saturated solution by adding one crystal of salt.
